Who was Mayme Carter and who were her parents? We find Mayme living with Cynthia Wells on the 1910 and 1920 censuses as her granddaughter. Why was she living with Cynthia? On the 1910 census we find that both of her parents were born in Missouri, however; on the 1920 census we find that her father was born in Missouri and her Mother was born in the U.S. How can this be possible? Mayme does not have the Wells last name, could she have been a child born out of wedlock or was she the daughter of Amy Estelle Wells? Did Amy marry? Amy was on the 1900 census, 28 years old and single still living with Cynthia. What happened to Amy after 1900, did she marry then die while having Mayme?
Mayme Carter was born about 1906 (assuming that the baby is Mayme) so we will date the first photo as 1906. In the second photo Mayme is about 10 yearrs old so we dated this photo as 1916. The last photo Mayme looks to be about 14 or 15 so this photo we will date at 1920.
